For some reason, I seem to be stuck in Genesis.
I was going to spend a bit of time discussing Lot, but it’s too depressing. Talk about a dysfunctional family… God took care of Sodom despite Abraham’s plea to spare it for 10 righteous people. That tells you something about Lot (even though God got Lot’s family out in time).
Then there’s Abraham. After I finished yesterday’s post, I thought, “Well maybe one reason that God waited so long to fulfill his promise of a son for Abraham is that He was waiting for Abraham to mature spiritually.”
NOT!
So much for that! You’d think after the debacle with Sarah in Egypt, Abraham would think twice before passing her off as his sister again.
Abraham does the same thing with Abimelech.
And Sarah may be pregnant!!
With the long-promised heir!!
Egads!
Now the first time, Abraham passed Sarah off as his sister because she was so beautiful; he thinks the King of Egypt will kill him in order to get to her.
But this time, Sarah’s 90 years old!! What’s even weirder is that it’s apparent that Abimelech thought about touching her, but was spared because he didn’t! Maybe 90 in Abe’s day is the new 40… (They did live longer then.)
Well, there’s only one conclusion to draw: God is faithful to His promises, even when we are jerks.
Actually, that’s good to know. When I am waiting a long time for God to move, it’s not because of ME that He doesn’t do what I think He should.
He will move, because He will be faithful to Himself.
So, when God says if I seek Him I will find Him, then I will.
