My life is in a tizzy with new responsibilities and new excitement and new possibilities (for sinning and messing up, too!). Not to mention all the old stuff – husband, kids, home, dogs, etc, all that stuff!
So this is a good reminder from Paul:
…“knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
But if anyone loves God, he is known by God. (1 Corinthians 8:2-3 ESV)
Paul knew more than the average bear. He was “educated at the feet of Gamaliel” (Acts 22:3), “a teacher of the law held in honor by all the people.” (Acts 5:34)
Paul knew that for all his knowledge, he knew little. There was always room to know more.
Paul knew that for all his knowledge, if he did not love, his knowledge was useless.
So, how, did Paul who was so smart, so educated, so well-born, so zealous, so righteous - how did he put LOVE first. How did he learn to listen and LEARN from others and from God?
He asked God for help.
Because Paul was known by God.
The same goes for me.
God knows exactly when I need to shut up and learn from others. God knows exactly when I need to put the brakes on knowledge and submit to love.
I am SO glad that I am known by God. God knows I need it!
