Back to Blogging

Well, it’s been – what, 6 months? – since I last blogged here.   Right after the last post Why Am I Contentious? (Why Am I a Nag?) , my mother-in-law passed.  Not unexpected, but it still takes its toll on all concerned, and a bit of time.   Then I had some great weekends away with girlfriends where … Continue reading »

I Destroyed My First-Born Last Night

It was a painful and scary moment. I went to Settings. I found Delete Blog. Two clicks later, it was gone. My first blog. I deleted the former Longing for a Holiday at Sea blog, nee Prosperity Gospel, NOT! (I decided the first name was just a bit too sarcastic to attract my kind of … Continue reading »

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yep. Today’s the day. I broke my leg, too. April Fool’s! About the leg, not the birthday. I am entering another decade. I refuse to say which, but suffice it to say, I am not happy about having attained this particular year of my life. So I have taken to saying I am xxty-ten, not … Continue reading »

The Perfect Church, Part 2: Community

Like I said in a previous blog on this subject (The Perfect Church, Part 1: the Sermon), I am writing this post as a consequence of the overwhelming response I got to my post called Why Should I Go to Church? I thought I would write down what for me are features of the perfect church. In … Continue reading »

Doggie Do-Over (Phunny Photos)

Scarlet (reddish) and Coco (brownish) got haircuts yesterday.  Top pix are before. Bottom are after. My sister and family tell me the before pix look like mug shots (they also said poor Coco looks like a hedgehog) and the after pix, as if the dogs have had a little too much to drink. Tell me … Continue reading »

Blogging about Bono and Jesus

Too uninspired to write anything about herself or spiritual formation, she hunts up an old article where Bono talks about his Christian faith. Here’s the last half of the article: 3-August-2005 – Catholic News Agency INFLUENTIAL EVANGELIST: U2′S BONO MAKES STRONG STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF CHRIST NEW YORK, USA, August 3 (CNA) - … But now, in an interview … Continue reading »

Got-Fruit Tagged Meme

No.  I didn’t misspell “me.” Now for the second time in as many weeks, someone has tagged me to play a quirky blog game. This one is known as meme. Don’t ask me why: I have no idea. Got Fruit? tagged me. It took me a long time to find out I had been tagged. I kept seeing these Incoming … Continue reading »

Blog Slacker

I’ve been overwhelmed with work. And kids. (Can’t forget the dogs, too). Then I was out of town last week. Excuses, excuses, excuses. But the sad fact is: I have become a blog slacker.  In my slacker mode, I dig up a comment I left and then post it as a full-blown blog. How sad is that? Then Treyka tells me … Continue reading »

A Miracle Update

I got tired of looking at that last whiny post of mine (Trying to Get Over a Hurt ).  Things actually turned out really well. I added a comment to that post  about the little miracle that happened afterwards, but since you may not read the comments (and I have no time to think up a better blog…), I’ll … Continue reading »

Trying to Get Over a Hurt

It started on Thursday. I won’t go into details, but someone got really upset with me Thursday and finally dumped it on me Friday. It shocked and hurt me. I’ve been thinking about it all weekend. My husband will look over at me, see me stare off into space and say, “Do something else. Stop … Continue reading »

Girl’s Got Game (photo)

Hustling (in a good way) daughter. Proud momma. First basketball game today! Editor’s note: At the next to last game, this girl finally got her mo together and sank FOUR in a row, effectively winning the game. Dad and I were SO proud (and shocked since neither of us were athletes).  Funny thing, the night before I … Continue reading »

The Bad Women in Jesus Christ’s Past

I read the first chapter of Matthew’s gospel last night. At first blush, it includes what looks like a typical genealogy (although there’s nothing typical about a genealogy when it belongs to the Son of God). If you look close, you’ll notice something unusual:  the list includes five women. This, despite the fact that the genealogy traces Jesus’ lineage … Continue reading »
